Enagás has partnered with Fisterra Energy and White Summit Capital to launch a green hydrogen brewing plant which reaches up to 237 megawatts (MW) to supply local industry, and which, according to the companies, incorporates large consumers of hydrogen and natural gas.
As predicted in the Hydrogen Roadmap of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, this project will enable the future use of green hydrogen in vehicles, municipal services, public transport and truck fleets related to the port function. In addition, it will collaborate in the decarbonization of industrial operations and power generation.
Likewise, green hydrogen could be used as one of the clean fuels in maritime transport, which is why the Port of Algeciras can be a key point in the supply of ships.
Due to its strategic location, Andalusia can value the renewable resources available for its use in the production of green hydrogen and its use in the decarbonisation of sectors where electrification is not possible.
In addition, this project in the Bay of Algeciras facilitate the optimal integration of renewable energy resources in the region. Thanks to its proximity to the gas pipeline network, this green hydrogen could be transported to national and international consumers, in existing networks.
The companies highlighted that the use of renewable resources for the production of green hydrogen will allow Andalusia as a key region in the production of renewable energy, which would entail social, environmental and economic benefits for the area.
One of them is the maintenance of current employment in the long term, by facilitating the local industry to meet its environmental commitments, as well as the generation of highly qualified direct and indirect employment.
