Ethereum 2.0 Testnet Launched with Seven Clients, Marking Successful First Step Toward Proof-of-Stake
The Ethereum ecosystem is arriving little by little. The path from proof of work (PoW) to proof of stake (PoS) consensus algorithm is becoming clearer.
Steklo, the first Ethereum 2.0 testnet, has been launched with seven clients, marking a successful first step towards the official launch of ETH 2.0.
The new development was shared a couple of hours ago on Twitter by Sajida Zouarhi, a blockchain engineer. According to the report, the seven clients involved in the implementation comprise 3 Eth1 clients and 4 Eth2 clients.
Sajida Zouarhi tweeted:
“The first Ethereum 2.0 Testnet Steklo launched today with 3 Eth1 clients (Besu, Geth and Nethermind) and 4 Eth2 clients (Teku, Prysm, Lighthouse and Nimbus). This is a successful first step towards a proof of stake ”.
According to a report, devenet got off to a good start for a few slots, but quickly split into several forks, which is the first attempt to engage different clients.
An Ethereum 2.0 developer, Diederik Loerakker stated that:
“The testnet is in a pretty shaky state right now, and it's more of a tool for developers to debug clients today. We will run more user-centric testnets in the coming weeks, once things stabilize sufficiently. "
Explaining further, Loerakker said that virtually all customers had problems, stating that:
"Lighthouse is building a separate chain of teku + nimbus, and prysm got stuck in genesis."
The developers will test the 12 possible combinations between the implementations. It is worth noting that the testnet that was recently launched has a very short lifespan.
The report noted that the recently launched Ethereum 2.0 testnet called Steklo will be active for only one day, but the developers have scheduled the next iteration.
The upcoming proof-of-stake network test will replicate PoS Ethereum (ETH) operations for much longer periods. According to the report, the coordination of development efforts took place in the "Rayonism" chat of Ethereum's Discord R&D room.
