This Tuesday, the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, announced that the Executive will invest 4,300 million euros in infrastructure for the 5G network until 2025.
Following the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Government spokesperson stated that she hopes that the companies invest around 24,000 million euros in this technology. A total of 883 million euros have already been included in the Budgets State Generals for the year 2021, which are pending approval in the coming weeks.
In addition, the Executive has announced that will temporarily reduce fees by spectrum reservation in the next three years, on the condition that it is invested in the deployment of 5G technology.
Thus, the Government will launch a annual aid plan to telecommunications operators with the end of promoting the development of 5G networks in urban areas. These grants will consist of a bonus associated with the installation of base stations.
In this sense, the multinational Telefónica has already affirmed that the development of 5G technology in Spain will require a large investment, calculating that approximately some 6 billion euros in infrastructure.
