Ferrovial has been awarded two contracts to expand the Yellow Line and Pink Line of the Porto metro (Portugal) for a total of 288 million euros. The Spanish construction company will carry out these works through its subsidiary Ferrovial Construcción, in consortium with the Portuguese Alberto Couto Alves.
The work of the Yellow Line consists of building a new 3.15 kilometer stretch of light rail, connecting the neighborhoods of Vila Nova de Gaia, Mafamude and Vilar do Paraiso, Oliveira do Duero and Vilar do Andorinho. It will also have to build part of the Santo Olvido Station, in addition to building a 770-meter viaduct and tunnel, the company said in a statement.
The Pink Line contract consists of developing a new circular line that It will be 3.1 kilometers long and will stretch between Plaza Liberdade and Casa da Música. This work includes the construction of four new stations, three ventilation shafts, as well as the assembly of the track and the catenary.
The forecast is that these jobs start in the second half of this year, with an execution period of 34 months for the expansion of the Yellow Line and 42 months for the construction of the Pink Line.
Ferrovial has been in Portugal for more than 30 years with projects such as the construction of the Northern Line, for Infrastructures in Portugal; the Blue Line for the Lisbon Metro, or the Via do Infante highway, the main highway in the Algarve.
