Reig Jofre, Pharmaceutical company listed on the Spanish continuous market, participates in the Seville biotech Vaxdyn consortium for the development of a new multivalent vaccine against serious bacterial infections caused by bacteria Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae, which could prevent pneumonia resistant to antibiotic treatment in patients in risk groups, such as those affected by chronic lung diseases, diabetes or in cancer treatment.

With extensive experience of more than 10 years in pharmaceutical development, industrial scaling of innovative injectable biological products that require specialization for their stabilization by lyophilization, Reig Jofre will contribute to this consortium its knowledge of analytical strategy, quality control and definition of the process for the production of clinical batches and will ensure the subsequent industrial scaling up of the Vaxdyn vaccine.

Infections caused by bacteria resistant to antibiotics cause the death of 700 thousand people each year, a figure that will progressively increase if new preventive and therapeutic measures are not developed. Pneumonia caused by bacteria, including antibiotic resistant bacteria, is one of the main causes of death in the world, with a special incidence in children, the elderly, and the immunosuppressed population.

Vaxdyn's multivalent vaccine project against serious bacterial infections has been funded by the global biopharmaceutical accelerator to tackle the growing global threat from drug-resistant bacteria, CARB-X, with € 803,000 and additional funds of up to 5, 7 million subject to meeting certain project milestones.

Led by Boston University, CARB-X It is funded by the U.S. Authority for Advanced Research and Development in Biomedicine. (BARDA), the Wellcome Trust, the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), the UK Government's Global Fund for Innovation in Antimicrobial Resistance (GAMRIF), and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, dedicated to improve the quality of life of people around the world.
