Government rules out closing regions and total containment measures considering that the restrictions imposed to date are "very hard, the hardest in Europe", in the words of Pedro Sánchez.
Some autonomous presidents, including that of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, insisted at the meeting on the need to "total confinement and stoppage of any activity other than essential services"and only the movement of health, food and other essential services is allowed.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has also been shown this Sunday in favor of a "complete confinement, not half" that involves "stop the country except essential services"; and has proposed closing ports and airports except for freight traffic and "strict control" at the Gibraltar gate. He has also pointed out that "personally" believes that "there are areas of Spain that should be closed" to avoid more infections.
However, Sánchez explained during his speech at the press conference that he would propose a month-long confinement, such as the one he is going to request from the Congress of Deputies, it has not only "social" but also "psychological" effects, especially in older people or victims of gender violence, whom he reminded that "protection mechanisms" are still enabled. "We are imposing measures of extraordinary gravity"
The president confirmed at a press conference that he will ask Congress to extension of the alarm status for another 15 days, for which he hopes to count "with the support of all parties". In total, we will extend the declaration of the state of alarm until the April 11", has explained.
