With Spain immersed in the state of alarm decreed by the Government, the use of the vehicle is limited to certain justified cases. However, drivers need not fear should something happen to them while driving, as insurance maintains their coverage and workshops would remain open during this time as they are considered an essential service.
As a result of the appearance of some incorrect information in which the continuity of protection was questioned, the Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Entities (Unespa) has reiterated that the declaration of the state of alarm does not modify the protections offered by automobile insurance , both in its third party insurance modality and in the rest of guarantees.
For their part, the Spanish Confederation of Automobile and Related Repair Shops (Cetraa) and the Spanish Federation of Professional Automotive Entrepreneurs (Conepa) affirm that the activity of vehicle repair and maintenance workshops is included within the " essential services "necessary for society to preserve transport and mobility, as stated in the Royal Decree approved this Saturday in relation to the coronavirus crisis.
This means that they will remain open despite the state of alarm being decreed. However, they point out that "if the authorities do not consider it that way," they hope that "they will be the ones who take responsibility for giving the order to close."
