Santander AM integrates the first of Allianz Popular's managers after the purchase

A first manager of Allianz Popular takes the step and joins Santander Asset Management after the purchase by the Cantabrian bank from the German insurance company of the ‘joint venture’ of insurance, funds and pensions inherited from Popular. Juan Vilarrasa has joined the Global Multi Asset Solutions (GMAS) team of the management company in Spain.

Vilarrasa has been a senior fixed income manager at Allianz Popular for almost six years. According to an official SAM spokesperson, “in reality, all Allianz Popular teams work hand in hand with our SAM teams” and, in this case, “it is a reallocation of their functions to the GMAS team,” which is directed by Cristina Rodríguez Iza.

The bank headed by Ana Botín acquired the All joint venture ’Allianz Popular for 936.5 million euros from Allianz. After parting with this business, the Spanish subsidiary of the German insurer has taken several steps to set up its own asset management business from scratch.

Last September, Allianz obtained the necessary license to manage pension plans, and recently it has relied on Inversis Gestión to launch five investment funds, prior to the registration of its collective investment institution manager (IIC) and as substitutes for the funds that Santander has remained. He has registered a Spanish stock fund, three profiles and one dynamic management with alternatives.

The insurer has also appointed Miguel Colombás as new director of Asset Management, who since 1994 until his current appointment by Allianz has been linked to the area of asset management of Popular, having also been the CEO of Allianz Popular Asset Management.
