The World Health Organization (WHO) has endorsed the measure. In addition, the authorities have started the construction of an emergency clinic in Wuhan, which can hold 1,000 beds and should be completed by February 3.

The virus has not only spread within China. Cases in mostly single-digit cases have meanwhile been registered in numerous other countries in the East Asian region. The United States and Australia also had one infected person, and three infected were registered in France on Friday.

The virus is said to have its origins in an animal market in Wuhan and belongs to the group of coronaviruses, These usually trigger respiratory diseases, which can vary in severity, but usually only trigger colds. However, the causative agent of SARS also belonged to the virus group that killed around 800 people in China and Hong Kong in 2002 and 2003.
