Starting next week, users will be able to purchase gift cards (gift cards) from the Amazon retail giant with Ripple's XRP tokens. The initiative is the result of another partnership between the BitPay and Ripple cryptocurrency payment processor.
The news was published on Twitter by cryptocurrency enthusiast Tiffany Hayden and confirmed by BitPay co-founder Tony Gallippi who retweeted the publication on January 18. Hayden's post says:
Thank you, @TonyGallippi!

"Run! $ XRP added to @BitPay! Starting next week, gift cards can be purchased with $ XRP, even for @Amazon! Download the app, get comfortable, contact your favorite retailers to start accepting #XRP! Thank you, @TonyGallippi! "
The Ripple application is now available for Android and iOS operating systems, but the gift card services offered by BitPay are still limited to residents of the United States.
Gift cards are an easy option for the encryption community to use its assets in the main retailers in the market.
Association between Ripple and BitPay
The partnership between Ripple and BitPay was consolidated in October 2019. At that time, BitPay partnered with Xpring, one of Ripple's development initiatives, to allow companies that own BitPay Wallet and BitPay Prepaid Card to accept payments with the token Ripple's XRP through the BitPay processing platform. About the association, BitPay product director Sean Rolland said:
“BitPay customers are taking advantage of the promise of the payment technology blockchain and, with XRP, they can offer a fast, economical and scalable payment option. The incorporation of XRP as the next blockchain asset backed by BitPay expands blockchain options in the payment ecosystem «.
