Near the US Embassy in Baghdad three rockets hit. The news agencies AFP and Reuters reported, citing security circles. There were no reports of fatalities or injuries. There have been dozens of similar attacks on the Green Zone since the end of October last year. At the beginning of January, the highly secure government district had been hit several times with rockets.
Last week we were in Iraq also hit multiple rockets near bases where US troops are stationed. A possible background is retaliation by Iran for the killing of General Kassem Soleimani by the USA. The suspicion is mostly directed against Shiite militias that are allied with neighboring Iran. Like Iran, they want US troops to be withdrawn from the country.
