The deputy SPD chair, Klara Geywitz, has accused the media of an unfair attitude towards the new SPD dual leadership. Saskia Esken in particular was criticized too harshly because she was a woman, Geywitz said in an interview with the Tagesspiegel,
"I find the malice with which some journalists meet the new chairpersons strange," she said. Especially Esken is "very hard and malicious criticism". Because Esken is a woman, she is judged more negatively in the media than her colleague.
Geywitz, together with Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz, was inferior to Esken and Walter-Borjans in the struggle for the SPD party chairmanship at the end of November.
