Donald Trump Brings Two Well-Known Lawyers to His Defense Team | TIME ONLINE

US President's Lawyers Donald Trump get prominent support in impeachment proceedings. The lawyer Ken Starr, who laid the foundations for the ultimately unsuccessful impeachment procedure against the then President Bill Clinton in 1998, and star lawyer Alan Dershowitz join the defense team, as Trump's legal adviser said.

The Harvard law professor Dershowitz became known as one of the lawyers accused of murdering former football star and actor O.J. Simpson obtained an acquittal. According to an insider, Trump's defense team is led by the White House legal adviser, Pat Cipollone, and Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow.

The impeachment proceedings against Trump officially began on Thursday in the Senate. The opening speeches are expected next Tuesday. Democrats accuse Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress investigation. In her opinion, the Republican withheld US $ 400 million in military aid approved by Congress to induce President Volodymyr Selenskyj to investigate ex-US Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter for alleged involvement in corruption. Joe Biden is considered a promising candidate in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination and thus a potential rival of the Republican Trump, who wants to be re-elected in November.

Trump has repeatedly rejected the allegations. He is the third president in US history to face impeachment. The decision rests with the senators, most of whom are Republicans. It is therefore unlikely that Trump will lose his office.
